Your Tech Empty Your Tech

Post by Boyo Tue Aug 31, 2010 3:53 pm

Haowdy everyone, I'm just curius about everyones hardware and software, like what operating systems we like to use, maybee some cool apps we found on the web, hardware that we love, or stuff everyone wants.

I guess I'll go first, I'm using a copy of windows 7 ultimate x86 on my shit-dell xps laptop with 2gb of ram, 120 gb hdd, and 3.0 Ghz cpu.

Along with my favorite apps like
ccleaner - to clean my computer (registry and delete bs)
steam - games
Internet addons from adobe, java, and microsoft (silverlight ofc)
notepad++ - for editing cfgs
ms office 2010
avs video editor - for when I want to edit a video before putting it on youtube, I know I don't need to anymore, youtube has an online editor
jondo - my favorite way to stay anonymous
project64 - to play old games
Web browsserve chrome, opera, mozilla firefox, safari, and ie
itunes - for music and my ipod (i'd prefer winamp though)
sandboxie - in case I want to be paranoid about files I download
virtual box - for testing out boot discs and testing out other operating systems on my computer
ninite to install it all
peerblock - to block spammers and hackers from getting into my computer as well as some other stuff
limewire - oh wait thats full of virus's and was just shut down Razz
dropbox - easily sync files between all my computers
handbrake - convert video files for my ipod
boxee - nice little app that turns my computer into an entertainment pc of sorts
hulu plus - the totally online version of netflix Twisted Evil (no dvds)
vent - I think thats some piece of bloatware though Razz
virtual clone drive - instead of burning images to dvds I can read a copy of a disc right off my hard drive
skype - talk with fam and friends
steel - keylogger that avg isn't so pissy about
imgburn - burn iso files to dvds and cds
k-lite codec pack - read any popular video file
logitech touch mouse server - use my ipod as a wireless mouse
maleware bytes
avg
truecrypt - encrypt documents and passwords
recuva - to recover that file I accidentally deleted
xxamp - setup a quick website
OpenAFS - access my website
Logon Backround Changer
Tether - tether my blackberry to my computer

Boot discs
Hirens boot disc
UBCD4win
UBCD (ultimate boot cd)

Other discs
ophcrack when I forget my password or need to get into a friends computer for maintainence
Dell Ubuntu restore disc - its ubuntu just with bloatware and the dell wifi drivers

Operating systems I like
Windows XP Pro
WIndows 7 Ultimate
Ubuntu
Kubuntu
Linux Mint (thats right, I'm getting into it now Bunny)
Redhat but for now centos

You guys know, there is a company claiming that it can use a powerful gpu to brute force any random patterned encryption w/ 128 random character password within a day. I don't believe it's possible, however...it's being claimed.

Being that the best encryption software is open source....it's easy to make a few small changes and make that a non-issue.

The FBI, CIA and NSA supposedly are. The only thing you have to do is change the file types to something incompatible w/ a gpu in the source code. Recode the file compression w/ a different name and pointers to it in the encryption source code and viola....not cracking it with a gpu at all Very Happy

Does'nt matter. The FBI tried for 4 years to crack a Truecrypt container recently and were not able to do it and gave up. I don't believe a word of their advertisements concerning strong random character/numeral/symbol cyphers. For dictionary attacks....maybe. But random passwords are a whole different matter. If you really wanted security, use a random character generator combining several different alphabets....like Cantonese (3000 + characters in the alphabet alone), Cyrillic, and English. LOL! Try and crack that ya bastards.

And a sweet rig it is too, more than enough to play anything on the market currently if the cpu unlocks to a 4 core. 98% if 3 cores unlock, and 90% if no extras do (2 core operation). Very Happy

Nice. My current rig is enough to play anything made up to 2009, with some to getting really annoying now lag. Which I mean my lappie. My main computer that i`m currently backing up with this portable hard drive I bought at the local best buy lags when I try to play Duke Nukem 3D. Seriously, it can`t play any game without lag except for ones made before the year 1995 and prolly most 2D platformers. It can handle most games maybe made before or during 2006, excluding obvious ones like Crysis. That game does not like my computers. Once when I didn`t really care about anything I got MW1 for it. I was actually able to play, but it took 20 minutes to load and I played at a frame rate of about 1 to 7 fps.

Ouch! You need an upgrade pretty badly. I just sold my motherboard and netbook so I could get into something a little more capable. Not that what I had was bad at all w/ 3 cores @ 4Ghz.

But a once in a lifetime oportunity came up to buy a very fast former world record holding AMD 965 Black Edition that will run all day at 4.3 Ghz on air cooling, plus once tipped the record book at 6.7 Ghz under Ln2. So anyway, it's currently residing in an MSi 890GXM-G65 mobo w/ 4 Gb's of Geil's Black Dragon ddr3 @ 2133 Mhz. Topped off with a Prolimatech Mega Shadow and (2) Mechatronics high pressure 140 cfm fans. Plus 3 more Mechatronics for case intake and exhaust duty.

I need to up the ante a little bit on video performance from the MSi Hawk R5770 I'm currently running overclocked at 1042 Mhz core/ 1425 Mhz mem. It's pretty good on fps at 37/46/59 (low/mid/high) on BC2 max settings and HBAO on. (fraps run w/ my old cpu/mobo/ram. Haven't tested the new ones yet, still waiting on the thermal grease to cure before I light the afterburners Razz). Basically, I can play just about anything on nearly the highest settings (except Metro 2033). Although, I do run it all @ 1050 resolution. I need more power so I can update my monitors and run at 1200 rez w/ good fps in games. I do run an aftermarket Artic Cooling heasink/ ramsinks/ vrm heatsinks on it w/ (2) Yate Loon 88 cfm fans for cooling the vid card.

Long story short, I built a 866 cfm high pressure vaccum cleaner, and then built a computer inside of that Very Happy

I didn`t understand a word of that other than vaccum, pressure, cleaner and computer. I saw something about lighting grease afterburners or idk? But yeah, you`re right. I`m gonna get an alienware PC and then wait a few months for that 16 core amd processor I heard about, or it`s almost obviously going to come out Intel successor soon. Then I can play Duke Nukem 3D without lag, or when my computer is really messed and cluttered, crashes.

Nooooooo, don't get an Alienware. It's overpriced, underperforming middle to middle high end parts. Honestly, it's easy to build a computer. Plus, you'll save a ton of cash doing it.

Too make what I was saying in my earlier post more easy to understand....this is what I just upgraded from.
